We want to lessen our ecological footprint and this was the most solution oriented idea. Local food, engaging ourselves in the earth. Involving people, reducing fossil fuel use. "

growing, resourcefully, uniting, bellies

We grow healthy, organic food and operate a CSA (community, supported, agriculture). We do this while educating the community about the value of growing and eating local, healthy food. This promotes a deeper connection to the land. We educate the community through the University internship program, school learning gardens and large community volunteer work days on our plots. At least 10% of the weekly harvest of food goes those in need. We feel the sharing of homegrown "GRUB" makes an important investment into our local Chico food system, and promotes the overall health of our community, our bodies and our earth.

I just heard your spot on "more hip than hippie" and was excited to hear about another local CSA! I definitely plan to pass the podcast on to my friends and family; my boyfriend and his dad just started up their own CSA in Stockton. A bit more business-oriented, I'm hoping to help get them more involved with the COMMUNITY aspect of CSA. Lee and Francine, thanks so much for being an inspiration. Next time I'm in Chico I would love to meet you :) Good luck and have fun with your endeavor!

hey there... Francine,Max and Lee... it's me Luna from the 2008 Sustainability conference...SLO brew... how's the farm? I'm just checking in and saying hello to you all. I'm on my way up to Oregon to hit up some hot springs up there and going by train or bus. But I want to stay in touch because you all are doing such great things with GRUB and I hope to hear what it grows into. I'm sure we'll all cross paths again and frolick amongst some fruit trees while eating ripe peaches and harvest beautiful food that we are sooo blessed to grow, and feed and cook and be merry...to say the least! Let me know if you ever come to Santa Cruz or Santa Barbara. Much love to you all and it was great to meet ya! ~Luna

Sherri, Francine and all of the GRUB community, I just wanted to give a heartfelt thanks for all of the work and time you have put into the garden at Mi Escuelita Maya preschool. we cherish your hours spent there and the children use the garden everyday. We are still harvesting the wonderful tomatoes and herbs and eggplant. As wellas picking beautiful bouquets of flowers. Please, I want everyone to know just what a precious resource GRUB is to the community and especially to the children to come in and teach them how to know where their food comes from, where it goes and how we get it. So all the support anyone can give them is returned a thousand-fold. GOOD WORK!!! MIL GRACIAS! Holly Ponciano, mother and director of Mi Escuelita maya
